Curriculum
Our schools, whilst delivering the statutory content of the National Curriculum, plan a thematic approach to learning. The topics change regularly to excite and inspire children to nurture a passion for learning. The curriculum is taught with the consideration of the needs of all learners. A knowledge and skills-based approach is followed to ensure that the children make progress with their learning as they move through the Federation.
Our pedagogy - defined simply as the method, and practice, of teaching, is based on Rosenshine's Principles. This consists largely of 10 key elements;
-
Begin a lesson with a short review of previous learning
-
Present new material in small steps with pupil practice
-
Ask a large number of effective questions andcheck the responses of all pupils
-
Provide models and examples
-
Guide pupils' practice
-
Check for pupil understanding
-
Obtain a high success rate
-
Provide scaffolding and support for difficult tasks
-
Encourage and monitor independent practice
-
Engage pupils in weekly and monthly review
